Pride was also created to showcase many of the unique elements in our LGBT community and area that have made Puerto Vallarta one of the top gay resort destinations in all of Latin America. Pride is a celebration of the LGBTI community, and Pride events are primarily a place where LGBTI communities celebrate who they are and create positive visibility for a community that has suffered greatly under a cloak of invisibility. Pride activities are a terrific opportunity to campaign against human rights abuses of LGBTI people, celebrate successes, and show solidarity.
Ongoing human rights violations Grassy Narrows Protests and Policing: March in a parade, table at an event, or take part in a human rights vigil. What started as a simple idea for a pride parade became a very well received and attended three day series of events which included beach parties, a fashion show, tea dance, the commitment ceremony, a public showing of the movie Frida, and much celebrating in the bars and nightclubs involved. The local gay and lesbian community was excited and also very pleased with the support it received from local people and businesses as well as city hall officials which helped to make the gatherings and merriment successful in themselves, and also would hopefully give a boost to increasing tourism to our charming tropical beachtown. Pride was also created to showcase many of the unique elements in our LGBT community and area that have made Puerto Vallarta one of the top gay resort destinations in all of Latin America.
